Erick Meyenberg
This video shows the interplay of lights and shadows projected onto the floor of the moving train Meyenberg took from Brittany to Normandy—the journey described by Marcel Proust in the first volume of In Search of Lost Time (1908–1922).
Formally speaking, the image’s behavior evokes the 24 frame-per-second speed of film projection, the technical principle that enables the human eye to perceive movement. This tribute to cinema—and to Proust—bears witness to the artist’s experience of temporal fragility in relation to mortality and death.
