Contador

Edeza’s work delves into the depiction of violence and its framing within a systemic structure of representation. This frequently takes place by means of formal research into the medium itself as texture, where Edeza questions the many different filters of the image and self-censorship.
Contador shows a ten-second countdown that marks the murder statistics during the presidential administration of Felipe Calderón, who declared “war on drugs.” The numbers combine the artist’s speculations with figures from the weekly periodical Zeta; the final statistic is the journalistic projection of deaths for the fifth year of Calderón’s administration. The piece was made in the last year of his presidency; the total number of murders ultimately exceeded these estimates.
