Chairs - MUAC

William Bullock Chair

William Bullock (ca. 1773-1849) was an English traveler, naturalist and antiquarian who visited the newly independent Mexico and organized a first exhibition in London with the objects and specimens that he took home. We have created the William Bullock Extraordinary Chair of Critical Museology as a space for reflection and discussion of the daily work of the museums of art, science and history in Mexico. We tackle political, social and inclusion issues, as well as subjects relating to critical museology, from an academic perspective.

Olivier Debroise Chair

As a researcher, curator and art critic, Olivier Debroise (Jerusalem, 1952-Mexico, 2008) defined the study of Mexican photography to understand its importance as an artistic discipline. Many of his projects were marked by the culture of the image. We set up this chair with the aim of promoting the study and critique of the image in art, as well as in the circuits of production and distribution of current culture.

Helen Escobedo Chair

The work of Helen Escobedo (Mexico City, 1934-2010) as an artist and cultural manager gives rise to a series of reflections on historical accounts, which help to think about our role as a museum. We have created this chair with the aim of activating questions that challenge official discourses and proposing a cartography of Latin American critical re-readings about art that are altering the politics of the visual.
