68 + 50 unites the work of four different exhibitions that reflect on the 1968 student movement: a watershed moment in recent Mexican history. Studying four specific cases, this publication offers an account of the transformations undergone by artistic practices in Mexico.
Graphics of ’68 recovers a body of images that were present at marches and rallies: visual material that strengthened the voice of protest and shaped a new collective imagination. Grupo Mira introduces the artistic output and critical power of the title group and helps narrate the history of the 1970s Mexico. Salón Independiente exhibits anti-establishment, experimental projects through group endeavors. Finally, #NoMeCansaré [#IWontGetTired] explores certain contemporary practices of public art and social mobilization. Today, fifty years after the student movement, these four exhibitions invite us to contemplate the cultural changes Mexico has experienced since then.
