Andrew Roberts. Spectral Corpse
The most recent project by Andrew Roberts (Tijuana, 1995) evokes the sociopolitical context and pop culture of 2006, reflecting his experiences growing up in a border city during the first decade of the twenty-first century. This video installation creates a fictional universe in which four adolescents have survived the apocalypse as zombies, appearing as both witnesses and evocations of a world of which they are but vestiges. In this exhibition, Roberts appropriates those fictions determined by the logic of neoliberal capitalism in order to explore the way in which certain commodities and videogames trace a connection with death as a spectral entity. Spectral Corpse explores the gap between the digital world and its imminent repercussions on our bodies and envisions a hybrid future where the tangible and the virtual fuse together.
