Curare
Poisons, Remedies and Curatorial Strategies, 1991-2010
The exposition and accompanying book explore the contributions made by Curare. Espacio Crítico para las Artes to the art world over the course of two decades (1991-2010). Comprised of art historians and critics, this civil association was conceived, at a time when there was a dire need for a platform that facilitated debate and reflection, as a type of “counterinstitution” that afforded the opportunity to challenge art and hegemonic cultural policy

The exhibition highlights the wide diversity of strategies that the group initiated within the cultural domain: expositions, publications, seminars, colloquiums, debates, curatorial consulting, historical reinterpretation projects, database and collection design, to name only a few. Similarly, the project offers multiple points of entry to learn about Curare: as a response to a series of contingencies and as a catalyst for foundational events in the area of art criticism, curatorship and the historiography of art in Mexico.
