Graphic Turn: Like the Ivy on the Wall explores forms of street-level graphic action that have been carried out by artists and activists during different social movements. This investigation by Red Conceptualismos del Sur takes into consideration certain historical practices from the 1960s, with an emphasis on current events. It seeks to connect geographically-dispersed practices and ways of doing on a shared map in order to configure an archive of the present.
Graphic action, like life itself, can emerge through any fissure and occupy public space in the face of pressing needs and persistent memories. The infinite variety of resources gathered together in this exhibition—such as actions and performances, different forms of street graphics, embroideries, paintings/protest signs, projections on buildings, interventions on signage, shirts and other signs—and the texts that are included in this folio reveal the visuals and vocabularies of protest.
