Helen Escobedo

The exhibition, Expanding Art Spaces: Helen Escobedo at the UNAM 1961–1979, is a reappraisal of the Fondo Helen Escobedo and the Fondo Histórico of the Museo Universitario de Ciencias y Arte (MUCA) at the Centro de Documentación Arkheia. The research highlights key moments in Escobedo’s career at the helm of the Department of Fine Arts and her later role as head of museums and galleries at the UNAM’s Cultural Promotion division, a position she held for almost two decades in a period marked by deep transformations in the arts. Under Escobedo’s stewardship, important exhibitions and events were produced, some of which were unprecedented in Mexico, shaping a broad and enriching multidisciplinary program.
