Myra Landau. Sensitive Geometry
The work of Myra Landau was essential to the development of geometric abstraction during the second half of the twentieth century, yet it is little known outside of specialist circles. This publication responds to the need to give greater visibility to the work of female artists who have been left out of the historiographic discourse while recovering her contributions to the history of geometric abstraction, particularly sensitive geometry.

This term, coined by the Brazilian critic Roberto Pontual for the collective exhibition América Latina. Geometria sensível (1978), refers to a form of geometric abstraction that stands apart from the hard lines and rigorous rhythms associated with rationality. Sensitive geometry opts for gestural lines and has a freer character, in counterpoint to pure abstraction and cold brushstrokes. Moving chronologically, this study places particular emphasis on the work done by Landau during her time in Mexico—from 1959 to 1994—and contributes to meaningfully reconfiguring the art scene revolving around Mexican and Latin American abstraction during this period.
